General Data Protection Policy
For the privacy protection policy, DARIAH-GR/DYAS applies the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which provides a single legislative framework for the processing of personal data in the European Union member states and has been made mandatory on May 25, 2018. Personal data is any information that refers to the person of each individual, such as: their name and occupation, their marital status, their age, their place of residence, their ethnic origin, their political opinions, the religion they believe in, their philosophical views, their trade union activity, their health, their love life and any criminal prosecutions and convictions. Many of the above personal data are sensitive, i.e. they are of particular importance for the formation of the image of the individual’s personality.
DARIAH-GR/DYAS is governed by the following rules for the collection and processing of the personal data of the users of the infrastructure. We take every legal measure to ensure that personal information provided by users to the infrastructure is provided only with the express consent of the user, is kept secure and is considered confidential in accordance with applied laws and regulations.
DARIAH-GR/DYAS members are responsible for following the privacy protection policy for the data they collect.
The user’s registration in the services of the APOLLONIS websites in the Services Portal and in any of the following services of DARIAH-GR/DYAS implies their consent to the storage of their registration data for use by the specific service.
Mailing list and Newsletter
The user’s registration in the mailing list and in the DHt(rip) or other Newsletter implies that they agree to provide DARIAH-GR/ DYAS with the following personal information: Name, e-mail address and (optionally) the organization in which they are employed (e.g. University or Research Institute).
DARIAH-GR/DYAS uses this data to send messages related to the activities of the infrastructure and its members. The service used to send these messages is MailChimp. A copy of the database is stored in the ownCloud cloud service installed on an GRNET server.
Users can change or delete their personal information by contacting DARIAH-GR/ DYAS.
Events
For the video recording and photography of events, as long as the video footage and photos are used for the promotion of the events in mass media/communication media (e.g. press releases, websites, social networks, etc.) for the purpose of informing the public and/or the scientific community, the express consent of the participants upon registration is required.
Reimbursements for visitor expenses
In special cases (e.g. for the compensation of invited speakers or instructors), DARIAH-GR/DYAS compensates third parties for travel and accommodation expenses. Personal information (identity or passport number, bank account details, etc.) is kept by the organisers only until the compensation is paid.
Google Drive
To improve performance and for communication between DARIAH-GR/DYAS members, and between Apollonis members, shared folders have been created on Google Drive: One for Apollonis in which all Apollonis members participate, and one for the DARIAH-GR/DYAS for the internal communication of DARIAH-GR/DYAS members.
Users’ personal data is stored in GDrive and is visible to the persons participating in the specific folder and its administrator. The data is kept for as long as the project lasts, unless the user stops participating.
Data from the use of the website
During the use of the Website, personal and non-personal identification information of the Website users may be collected using available technologies, such as cookies and/or tracking protocol addresses and other similar technologies, as they result from the communication of the web browser with the server. Cookies are small text files that are stored on the hard drive of each user and do not access information from any document or file from their computer, or lead to the identification of their computer with any person. They are used to facilitate user access regarding the use of specific services and/or web pages for statistical purposes and in order to lead to useful or popular areas.
Non-personal information may also include the type of web browser the user uses, the type of computer, its operating system, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and other such information. The users of the website can set their web browser in such a way that it either warns them about the use of cookies for specific services or does not allow the acceptance of the use of cookies at all. In the event that the users/visitors of the specific services and pages do not wish to use “cookies” for their identification, they may have limited access to some of the services, uses or functions provided by the website.
Google Analytics
DARIAH-GR/DYAS uses Google Analytics services to collect data on the activities of users visiting its website, without recording the user’s personal data. The information it collects is aimed at improving the structure and content of the website and concerns the content visited by the user and information related to their computer’s IP address.

Social media
The social media accounts maintained by DARIAH-GR/DYAS on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) collect personal data of the users who follow these accounts, according to the policy of each service. The user has the right to unsubscribe from any of these accounts at any time.
